Mental Health Coaching

Eventually Life throws pretty much everything at us. Births, deaths, marriages, and everything in between. Regardless of our past or present personal circumstances, we are surrounded by and constantly subject to, negative inputs. Causing us to be distracted from what we might be doing and encouraging an experienced state of alarm. On top of this we are wired to spot negativity and danger, its a survival mechanism, and it's been an extremely valuable one.

 

All of this can leave us feeling overwhelmed and if we are not actively and regularly taking positive action for our mental landscape we will invariably find ourselves dragged backwards, risking persistent high levels of stress, anxiety, low mood and frustration.

 

These moods severely impact our quality of life and the experience of those closest to us.

Mindfulness

"What is mindfulness?"  Is a question I regularly here.  It is a word used increasingly frequently and there is justifiably more and more interest in this skill.

But what is it?

At it's heart, mindfulness is the development of insight or wisdom.  It is a skill that anyone can learn and like all skills it can feel fiddly and awkward at first but the more you practice the better you become.

Mindfulness helps improve our focus and attention and critically, helps us change the relationship with our thoughts, feelings and emotions.

It is important to realise that mindfulness is not about stopping thoughts, or stopping unpleasant emotions.  Instead it helps us see the thoughts and emotions for what they are, and avoid attaching our identity to them. 

It can be both simple and frustration as an intellectual concept, but you cannot simply understand it intellectually, you have to practice and embody the practice. 

It truly is an exciting and wonderful skill to embark on with significant benefits for you and for those you love. 

Personal Training

I whole heartedly believe that we need to nurture and treat our physical body with respect to ensure it can support us for as much of our journey as possible.  I also believe that if we neglect our physical wellbeing it is unlikely we will be able to sustain a healthy mental outlook.  We simply cannot separate body and mind on long term basis.  There needs to be a symbiotic harmony.

I encourage people to be as strong and as flexible as reasonably possible to give them the best foundation for the journey ahead no matter where that may take them. 

I specialise in helping people with challenging personal circumstances.  I have worked with all sorts of interesting people ranging from paraplegic, to joint replacements, people managing Parkinson's Disease or diabetes, to back surgeries and slipped discs.  I even work with healthy, traditionally able bodied people to.

Perhaps you have health concerns which limit your current ability to be active or an injury which you haven't quite been able to work around?  Or perhaps you recognise that you need to make changes and simply don't know where to start?

I provide simple, safe and effective tools which can be done effectively in the home environment with minimal equipment.

Breathwork

Breathwork is a wonderfully simple tool that can completely transform your sense of wellbeing.  It is always available to us and can improve our energy levels and our mood.

It may sound surprising but most people are not breathing efficiently.  In fact many are breathing dysfunctional by breathing through the mouth, not using the diaphragm correctly and over breathing.  This combination creates stress responses in the body and long term this can damage health and sleep cycles. 

There are health benefits to effective breathing and this improves lung function and our ability to utilise our bodies innate anti viral and anti microbial structures.
